The Individual and Family Support Program (IFSP) is designed to assist individuals on the waiting list for the intellectual disability (ID) or developmental disability (DD) Medicaid waivers to access short-term resources, supports, and services that will help them remain in their own community homes.
ANNOUNCEMENT: DBHDS has received over 1,600 applications for the FY14 Individual and Family Support Program since September 3, 2013. Because of the large volume of applications, DBHDS is no longer accepting applications. Individuals and families whose applications have already been received can expect to hear a response from DBHDS on the status of their application in December. Applications received after October 4, 2013 will be notified that the program has exhausted its funds and to please reapply again next year.
- An expanded directions guide has been created to assist people with filling out the application and decrease the amount of Pend for additional information requests, and lessen staff work load
- Applications will not be accepted via fax or e-mail
- A debit card system will be implemented for FY14
- Checks will only be sent when an applicant requests payment go directly to a vendor
The settlement agreement between the Commonwealth and the U.S. Department of Justice on Virginia’s Intellectual and Developmental Disability System requires the IFSP to run until 2021. The IFSP program will support a total of 1,000 individuals and families throughout Virginia each year from FY 2014 to FY 2021. The program supported 825 individuals in the first year of the program in FY 2013.
