• The Background Investigations Unit (BIU) conducts criminal background checks for employees and supervisors in direct consumer adult care positions at DBHDS-Licensed Private Providers.  The Office of Background Investigations (OBI) at the Virginia Department of Social Services conducts criminal background checks for employees, students, interns, volunteers and contractors for DBHDS Children's Residential Facilities only.
   
• Central registry searches for DBHDS-licensed providers (including Children's Residential Services) are available through the Virginia Department of Social Services (DSS). Required forms can be obtained from their Web site, www.dss.state.va.us.
