Comprehensive State Plan 2012- 2018
Commissioner Stewart announces that the draft of the Department’s Comprehensive State Plan is available for public comment.

Section 37.2-315 of the Code of Virginia requires that the Department develop and biennially update a six-year plan for the behavioral health and developmental services system. The plan identifies services and supports needed by persons with mental health or substance use disorders or intellectual disability across the Commonwealth, defines resource requirements, and proposes strategies to address these needs.

The Department welcomes your comments on the Plan and its recommendations.
You can provide written comments to Charline Davidson, Director of Planning and Development for the Department at DBHDS, 1220 Bank Street, P. O. Box 1797, Richmond, VA 23218-1797 or via fax at 804-371-0092.
You can also speak at a public hearing on the Plan on November 9, 2011. This hearing will begin at 2:00 p.m. at four locations around the Commonwealth through a video-conference hook-up. The video-conference hook-up will enable participating members of the Board of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and Department staff to hear all presenters. Presenters are encouraged to bring a written copy of their comments and give them to staff at each location.

The State Board will meet on December 6, 2011 to consider the comments received and revisions proposed in response to those comments. Additionally, the final version of the Plan presented to the State Board in December will replace FY 2010 with available FY 2011 statistics. The final Plan should be available on the DBHDS website before the end of the year.
