Dale Woods Named Permanent Director at Central Virginia Training Center
Richmond – DBHDS Commissioner James W. Stewart, III announced today that Southwestern Virginia Training Center (SWVTC) Director Dale Woods has been selected to serve as Central Virginia Training Center’s (CVTC) permanent director. Dr. Woods has been the acting director at CVTC since September 23, 2010.
“Dale has a comprehensive knowledge of Virginia’s developmental disability system and has extensive leadership and management training,” said Commissioner Stewart. “He has shown repeatedly over the years that he is dedicated to providing the needed support to help each individual in our care live as independently as possible and to developing a respectful work environment for staff.”
Dr. Woods’ service to Virginia began over 20 years ago as the assistant director for programs at SWVTC, and he has been the director of that facility for the past 15 years. Previously, he held several positions at the O’Barry Center in Goldsboro, NC, including the director of professional services, the director of speech language and audiology services and the director of staff development. Dr. Woods earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, a M.A. in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and an Ed.D in Organizational Development with an emphasis in Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Woods will begin his new position at CVTC on December 3, 2010. Dennis Shrewsberry, SWVTC’s assistant director for administration, will continue to serve as that center’s acting facility director until a permanent replacement is found.
CVTC and SWVTC are state facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities. CVTC is near Lynchburg and SWVTC in Hillsville.
