Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC)

What: Ribbon-cutting ceremony for SEVTC’s new residential housing. Guided tours of several of the new residences will also be offered.

When: Friday, May 11, 11 a.m.

Where:       Southeastern Virginia Training Center
                   2100 Steppingstone Square
                   Chesapeake, VA 23320

More: The 2009 General Assembly allocated $24 million in capital funds to resize SEVTC to 75 beds. W.M. Jordan Company in Newport News built 15 new 5-bed homes at SEVTC. Designed by RRMM Architects in Chesapeake, new activities and other programming decisions help the new residential housing be more integrated into the community than traditional institutional models.

The 2009 General Assembly also directed that homes be built in integrated community settings in the Tidewater area for SEVTC residents. The nine local community services boards will own and operate the new homes. Construction on the community homes is expected to be completed in the next several months.
