RICHMOND: Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services (DBHDS) Commissioner Jim Stewart announced that Sharon Bonaventura, Central Virginia Training Center’s (CVTC) acting director since December, has been selected as the facility’s new director.

“Sharon has served at CVTC for over 30 years and has been a key member of the training center’s leadership for the past ten years,” said Commissioner Stewart. “Sharon will continue ensuring that the individuals at CVTC receive high quality services and will continue working with families to facilitate safe transitions of individuals to community homes that are well-matched to their needs and preferences.”

Before becoming acting director, Sharon served as CVTC’s director of clinical services. She received her Master of Arts in psychology from the University of Richmond and her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and art therapy from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

Available to citizens statewide, Virginia’s public behavioral health and developmental disabilities services system is comprised of 40 community services boards (CSBs) and 16 state facilities. DBHDS seeks to promote dignity, choice, recovery, and the highest possible level of participation in work, relationships, and all aspects of community life for individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or substance-use disorders.
