Northern Virginia Training Center Gold Level Winner
(Richmond - July 13, 2005) - The Northern Virginia Training Center in Fairfax is
one of just 20 state agencies to achieve the top Gold Level award, in the
Healthy Virginians Workplace program. For the past year, employees at NVTC have
pushed hard to become more active and improve their overall health.
Common Health Coordinators Cynthia Lott, Chris Morin and Jeannie Klein have led
the way, directing a program focused on fitness and exercise, diet and weight
control. NVTC has sponsored Walk Challenges, and issued personal pedometers to
staff members to help add 2,000 steps to their daily routine. Health-checks
monitored blood pressure and cholesterol. Employees were encouraged to replace
coffee and soda with water.
In the end, their efforts paid off. Northern Virginia Training Center received
the Gold Award at ceremonies held at John Tyler Community College July 11th.
Secretary of Health and Human Resources Jane H. Woods acknowledged the
accomplishments, and thanked the leaders for getting so many employees involved
in the campaign. The honor is part of the Governor’s Healthy Virginians
Initiative, in which the Commonwealth is encouraging a culture of health and
physical activity among state employees.
