Richmond Behavioral Health Authority - Medical Director

Job Description: The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking a Medical Director who will provide clinical leadership for staff psychiatrists and nurses. The incumbent will conduct psychiatric evaluations for clients referred by staff to clarify diagnosis and make recommendations for treatment in collaboration with the treatment team. Prescribes medications and monitors accordingly. Coordinates care with external medical providers when indicated and provides education to patient/family regarding their illness and medication regimen. Psychiatric Treatment: Includes supportive therapy and other psychotherapeutic treatments. Participates in the evaluations and treatment decisions for RBHA clients who require emergency/urgent care. The incumbent must have experience in the following: basic general psychiatry; psychopathology of major mental disorders; treatment options spanning biological treatments with a sound knowledge of psychopharmacology, psychotherapy / counseling and psychosocial intervention. Working knowledge of modern management and supervision theories, principles and practices. The chosen candidate will have valid license to practice in the state of Virginia as a psychiatrist. Must have graduated from and accredited school of medicine and have completed a program of residency training in psychiatry. The employee must be either eligible for certification or be certified by the American Board of Psychiatry or Neurology. Salary: negotiable + benefits
