Valley - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Job Description: Valley Community Services Board is a Virginia public provider of community based mental health, developmental, and substance abuse services established by the Cities of Staunton and Waynesboro and Counties of Augusta & Highland and is looking for a candidate with proven leadership abilities to become its next Executive Director. Valley CSB provides comprehensive mental health, developmental, and substance abuse services to over 4,000 individuals per year. Valley CSB provides services to people in the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro and the surrounding counties of Augusta and Highland. The Agency has an annual operating budget of $20 million and approximately 300 employees. Valley CSB is governed by a policy-making Board of Directors appointed by the city and county governments. The Executive Director serves as the CSB’s Chief Executive Officer and is directly responsible to the Board for the overall direction and operation of the CSB. The Executive Director is responsible for management of strategic and operational planning, fiscal management, program planning and evaluation, all levels of human resources and workforce development, physical plant, information systems, and all legal compliance, risk and quality assurance, including federal and state statutes and licensing agencies. The Executive Director is employed under an annually renewable contract that contains performance objectives and evaluation criteria. The educational requirements include graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in business, public, hospital, or public health administration or a related field, or a human services field. A Masters degree in a related field is preferred. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in the areas of financial management, budgeting, administrative practices, program development and evaluation, public relations and human resources. Necessary experience includes leadership of public or private organizations with functions and responsibilities comparable to a CSB, experience working with a Board of Directors with policy, operating & fiduciary authority and responsibilities, and experience working with a broad range of constituents, including individuals receiving services, family members and advocacy groups in the mental health, developmental or substance abuse service areas or a similar field. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
